Welcome to the Parish of Buxton with Burbage and King Sterndale

Photograph of Well DressingA warm welcome to the Parish of Buxton with Burbage and King Sterndale.

If you are hoping to join us in worship, you may want to look at our indvidual church pages to find a style of worship that suits you, or you may want to come along and try all of them! Either way you will be made most welcome.

Buxton traces its origins back to Roman times and beyond. The highest market town in England, it has a population of just over 28,000 people, with 19,000 within the Team parish. Attractions such as the Pavilion Gardens, Opera House and annual arts and music festivals draw thousands of tourists every year, who also use the town as a base to explore the Peak District National Park.

The Parish of Buxton with Burbage and King Sterndale is an Anglican Team parish and is made up of six churches which are: St Anne's, Christ Church, Burbage, Christ Church, King Sterndale, St James's, Harpur Hill, St John the Baptist and St Mary the Virgin.

The Team ministry was created in 1974 from the three separate parishes of Buxton, Burbage and King Sterndale. The clergy team collaborate with a committed and active team of volunteers, and both clergy and volunteers are also involved in other non-church activities, such as Vision Buxton; the local Air Training Corps Squadron; the British Legion; and local schools.

We also enjoy good ecumenical relationships with other churches in the town, through the Churches Together network. These include the Methodist, Roman Catholic, URC and Buxton Community churches.
